With the increase in green procurement, regulations regarding embodied carbon, and the awareness on the impact of the construction industry on global warming, it is necessary for all major infrastructure projects to be able to manage their carbon performance. This presentation will explain in detail why Life Cycle Assessment and Life Cycle Costing matter, what is their role in the Infrastructure sector, and how they can be automated from BIM for immediate feedback about any projects’ environmental impacts and lifetime costs.
The presentation uses as the case study the practical implementation of these metrics with the High Speed Two (HS2) project from the UK. It is Europe’s largest infrastructure project, with budgeted total cost of £55.7bn and it implements also one of the most demanding carbon management systems, from concept design to commissioning.
