Energy efficient hotels in Malta
Bionova cooperates with the Maltese governmentEnergy efficiency for hospitality
The Maltese hotel sector will become the front-runner of energy-efficiency in the Mediterranean
The government of Malta has launched a public-private partnership (PPP) scheme with Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA), which aims to assist hoteliers to invest in energy efficiency projects. The overall aim of the project is to make the Maltese hotel sector the leader in energy efficiency in the Mediterranean.
The scheme is being prepared during 2017 and will be operational from 1st of January, 2018. It will provide tools for hotels to monitor their consumption, and identify cost effective energy saving measures, and an innovative white certificates funding mechanism for such measures. A set of online tools will also be included as part of an assistance package that will help the hotels achieve their targets.
Bionova Ltd has been contracted to deliver the web-based software platform underpinning the scheme and providing hotels benchmarks and cost-efficiency analysis for investment measures. In addition of development of the software, Bionova will also operate and maintain the software. The solution is developed on Bionova’s proven cloud services platform.
The goal of the Maltese government is to make the hospitality sector in Malta the energy-efficiency leader in Europe. In order to achieve this goal, specific tools will be developed to allow hotels to calculate their energy consumption and identify cost-effective measures to reduce it. Moreover, additional funding will be available for hotels that will implement energy-efficiency strategies.
Bionova Ltd is proud to cooperate with the Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister Konrad Mizzi and the Minister for Tourism to promote sustainability in the sectors of tourism and hospitality.
